Here's a little bit about me.
Susan Rains, Interior Designer
I know interior design can be overwhelming and time-consuming. There are annoying things about your home because it doesn’t work well for you. You think about your future and know that you need to prepare, but you put it off because you don’t want to make the wrong choices. You may be hesitant to hire the help you need because you’re anxious about choosing the right Interior Designer who can fulfill your dream home aspirations.
I’m Susan Rains, and I help people increase the value they experience from their homes. I take a holistic approach that considers where you are in life now and thinks ahead to making your home more functional, beautiful, accessible, safe, and comfortable for everyone so you can enjoy your home for years to come.
My specialties include:
Working with clients age 55 and better who want a thoughtfully planned home that is an investment in the active lifestyle they envision for themselves.
Finding my creative inspiration in what you already own and making the green, sensible choice to incorporate your belongings into beautiful designs for your home.
Transforming a home that is just getting by into a home that fills you with pride and pleasure.
Everyone has unique talents, and I describe mine as a mixture of creative and analytical skills. I hold two degrees, one a Bachelors in Art from Indiana University of Pennsylvania. The second, a Masters of Interior Architecture from Drexel University. I became an interior designer not just because I have creative talent and a love for beautiful things but because of designs ability to foster overall well-being, healing, and a better life.
My formal education is rounded out with retail management experience and professional creative work including graphic design, wayfinding for hospitals, custom picture framing, and fine craft.
Always the student, I keep my skills sharp and bring you the latest and greatest by cultivating my design skills, resources, and product knowledge through active membership in the International Furniture and Design Association (IFDA) and by attending trade shows, conferences, and design events throughout the year.
I serve clients in the Philadelphia metropolitan area, including Bucks, Chester, Delaware, Montgomery, and Philadelphia Counties.
My love affair with design began with my Mother. I was her constant companion to watercolor classes, museums, antique stores, and flea markets. She has an incredible eye, reads up on her favorite collectibles and is so excited when she finds the missing piece in her collection.
As a child, I took it for granted that we had an 200 year old German grandfather clock and Michelangelo's David in our living room. Looking back, I see how her passions honed my eclectic taste, eye for quality and love of the hunt.
When I’m not working as an interior designer, I love being outdoors with my husband and son, visiting museums, or unwinding with my cat and a glass of wine.
